Nihilismus über alles

It seems it's been quite a while since I posted any new music. Not that I haven't been creating it, but there is that eternal struggle with whether the world really wants or needs to hear any new music - and more importantly why would the world want or need any new music from me? But to quote Seamus Heaney "The unwritten poem is always going to be entangled with your own business, part of your accident and incoherence - which is what drives you to write. But once the poem gets written, it is, in a manner of speaking, none of your business." So it's the writing and creating of this music which is a work that needs to be done, but once it's recorded it seems the rest of it is none of my business.. Laying aside that burden of nihilism I've resumed uploading some recently recorded music. Some older material should see the light of day soon also..

“The universe cannot be read until we have learnt the language and become familiar with the characters in which it is written. It is written in mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles and other geometrical figures, without which means it is humanly impossible to comprehend a single word. Without these, one is wandering about in a dark labyrinth."
- Marcus du Sautoy

“Henry Corbin was a partisan of the freedom of the Imagination and an implacable enemy of fundamentalism and totalitarianism's of all kinds. He stands as a champion of the individual human spirit against the power of social institutions of every sort—religious, political, academic. His work provides us with an example of how we might live the Mosaic prohibition against idolatry. Every time we find a new truth, cling to a new fashion, believe in a new idea, a new savior—whether in science, in art, in politics, in the life of the mind, or in religion—we erect a new idol. Corbin’s entire metaphysics denies us the false security of putting faith in anything fixed and immobile. The Imagination never stops.”

Wreck Of The Hesperus - Sediment

What shall I do with this absurdity –
O heart, O troubled heart – this caricature,
Decrepit age that has been tied to me
As to a dog's tail?
Never had I more
Excited, passionate, fantastical
Imagination, nor an ear and eye
That more expected the impossible...

William Butler Yeats

Sediment will be available for a limited time as a digital download.  Thereafter it shall be consigned to the cobwebs of history..

Beneath The Sod / Crypticum - Transmorphic Eye

Transmorphic Eye is a split release between the filthy industrial doom of Beneath The Sod (Raymond Keenaghan) and the coquettish arcane blackened doom of Crypticum (Cathal Rodgers)..

CD version will be available shortly, in the meantime the digital version is online now..

with formless awareness we transcend the phenomenal world..
a terminal experience within the absolute..

in a union of emptiness and form..
unfolding throughout this material manifestation..
in a union of emptiness and form..
with formless awareness..

variation.. mutation..unnatural selection..
mutation.. conclusions.. increasing irrelevance..
disequilibrium.. with formless awareness..

observational evidence an integral science..
an evolutionary synthesis conscientiously isolated..
thorough and assiduous.. virtually..
a rejected inheritance.. in self defence..

variation.. disequilibrium.. formless awareness..
 increasing irrelevance..
a theory of everything..
through the halls of blasphemous fire..
a theory of everything..
an unwanted apparition in the houses of god..

An Intonation In Sour Tones

nature and origins.. the fundamental reprimanded..
aggressively tied to the wont to preach..
recreate the ritual in meta phases.. if so inclined..
ashes and water.. dust and chrome..
recreate the ritual if so inclined..

a plague upon your flooding houses..
in a final disposal..
virtue and grace dissolving..
divergent discoveries..
virtue and grace dissolving..
an intonation in sour tones..

an intonation in sour tones..

a platform to elucidate.. to eradicate..
ecosystems in necro-focus..
sci-fi paranoia.. encyclical dystopia..

“Problems that remain persistently insoluble should always be suspected as questions asked in the wrong way.”  - Alan W. Watts

Shamanic Divination is defined as the art of seeing and interpreting signs in the world around us.  In it's original form it was a way of searching for answers to those spiritual/existential questions which seem to have plagued mankind ever since we crawled out of that primordial gloop.  As we look back at it now these ancient forms of soul-searching, meditation or self-reflection have long been decried as pseudo-scientific, and have mainly been reduced to parlour games such as fortune telling, or become systems for any number of easy-answer offering, self-help guru.

I would have to disagree with Fox Mulder when he says "The truth is out there".  The only truth is to be found within us, and perhaps the more people who become aware of this the less reliance we may have on the psychiatric or psychological crutches of our post-modern age.  It is not too much of a stretch to claim that the gradual erosion of self-awareness and imagination suits the power system with which the world finds itself.  Now I don't believe in any sort of secret world government or illuminati conspiracies.  We got to this place through a slow cultural and social evolution, a blind transfiguration from age to age, the wax and wane of struggles between disparate groups and ideologies.  Rampant capitalism, corporate greed, depletion of natural resources, climate change; these are just a few of the issues we have found ourselves facing and as the recent results of the Paris Climate Change Conference shows us, at this point in time we cannot reach a consensus on positive and meaningful action in the face of an apparent and imminent crisis.  Instead we get the usual political response of non-binding commitments and a lack of enforcement mechanisms.

And here today in 2016 there is still the prevalent belief that the world is how it is because that is the way it was made, because that is the way it has always been, the way it is supposed to be. This of course is a fallacy, but we as a species seem to lack the collective imagination to actually take control of the ship and steer it onto our desired path.

Geōmanteía is inspired by the art of casting rocks and earth and the reading of signs in placements and alignments. So to paraphrase Fox Mulder, "The signs are out there"... We just need to re-learn how to read them.

“If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” - William Blake

Mercury Retrograde

Many years ago I went to see a performance by the comedian Steve Hughes.  One of his jokes that night was: "Have you ever noticed how all self-help books are written by somebody else?".
This almost throw-away one-liner has stayed with me ever since, and has become even more prescient as the years have gone on. Most self help books seem to be aimed at those looking for easy answers, or those who have not really been made aware of the fallacy of looking for exoteric solutions to what is really an esoteric problem.

For me, astrology falls into that same category.  As much as I love the ancient mysticism surrounding the birth and development of astrology and it's connections to subjects such as sacred geometry or musica universalis, astrology has long fallen to simply being merely a capitalist tool for mass conformity and the erosion of individuality. Every shitty newspaper offers horoscopes filled with some of the most mundane and unimaginative advice one could hope for..

These new recordings were created between January 6th and 26th 2016, a time when all astrological warnings were that I should just go to bed, cover my head and not get up until the Mercury Retrograde was over...

Fractal Dimensions

Brand new collaboration with Nils Helstrom.  Earlier in 2015 I stumbled across this article entitled 'The Berenstein Bears: We Are Living in Our Own Parallel Universe.'

Being one of those that distinctly remembers them as being The Berenstein Bears, I am still increasingly reluctant to consider that it is simply a case of faulty memory. But the idea that they were always The Berenstain Bears feels so intuitively wrong, that I find it quite easy to accept this parallel universe theory. 'Fractal Dimensions' was inspired by the discovery of this article, as well as the ongoing fascination with quantum mechanics, multiverse theory and the concept of consciousness creating reality.

“You have to take seriously the notion that understanding the universe is your responsibility, because the only understanding of the universe that will be useful to you is your own understanding.”
- Terence McKenna

Three Ekstatic Dimensions

And in keeping with the general concept, I recorded a parallel-album to accompany 'Fractal Dimensions'.. If the Berenstein Bears have shown us how we can suddenly discover ourselves to be in a parallel universe, it makes me wonder how consciousness might help us in creating our very own alternate dimensions...
